Obstetric Services Obstetrics and Gynecology of Atlanta offers complete obstetric care encompassing prenatal, delivery and post-partum care. We encourage our patients to be involved in the labor and delivery process. We have an OB coordinator on staff who will spend time with you on your first obstetrical visit. She will review your health history as well as basic procedures you can expect throughout your pregnancy. We also have a financial counselor on staff who will help to coordinate your benefits with your insurance company. She will answer any financial questions you may have throughout your pregnancy. Our nurse midwifery program started in 1997 and is a popular option with our patients. Nurse midwives dedicate their practice to the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth and family planning. The certified nurse midwife (CNM) is a registered nurse who, having completed a post graduate course in midwifery, has extended her role to include the management of antepartal, intrapartal, postpartal and interconceptual care of women and their newborns. The physicians and nurse midwives work together in a collaborative fashion to provide you with a safe, competent and positive prenatal and birth experience. You can make your choice between a nurse midwife or a physician for your prenatal care and delivery, unless special circumstances apply. We typically schedule your first obstetrical visit during 10-12 weeks of gestation, however if you are unsure of your last menstrual period or have had any prior history of miscarriage, we would like to see you for a "confirmation of pregnancy" visit. Please call our office to schedule this appointment during the time that you think you will be approximately 8-10 weeks pregnant (gestational weeks are counted beginning with the first day of your last menstrual period).
